Placed in an area that dates back to the Anglo-Saxon ages, Derby has become one of the UK’s industry giants, home to engineering factories such as Rolls Royce and Toyota. This thriving motor industry city is in the heart of the Peak District, but it’s broadband network still holds up for the over 25,000 people employed in the motoring sector.

Thanks to an over £2 billion investment programme, Derby’s broadband has improved exponentially; bringing fibre-optic connections to over 10,000 properties. Whilst this has not brought fibre-optic to the entire city, most Derby residents have access if they want it.
Modern Derby has a high-tech economy, based around the commercial centre of Pride Park and the motoring industry. Derby is looking to add nearly 6000 new jobs within the next few years, so it’s broadband infrastructure needs to constantly improve to keep up with demand.
Speeds and Availability
Derby has recently risen above the UK average broadband speed, with over 10Mb downloads being found in the majority of the city.
Recently, Derby has seen thousands of homes introduced to fibre-optic broadband thanks to a huge investment, meaning that the majority of residents can now access superfast speeds. More remote regions of the city such as D23 and D24 have missed out on faster speeds, but this is planned to change in the next few years.
Providers
All the standard UK providers can be found in Derby, including Plusnet, BT and TalkTalk. The majority of these offer fibre-optic packages where available, with Virgin Media and BT Infinity running the fastest in the area.
Derby residents can also take broadband from providers not found in all regions of the UK, including Tesco, AOL and EE. Whilst these are lesser known ISPs, they could potentially save money when compared to other providers.
