Broadband in Bradford
A rapidly expanding and cosmopolitan city, Bradford is the multicultural epicentre of the UK and the North of England. Currently enjoying a big expansion in economy and urban renewal, Bradford is a city on the rise, with broadband playing a big part in this.
Expansion in broadband
Bradford’s many community programs have ensured that every aspect of the city is on the rise. This includes getting the city on the UK broadband map. Recently, Bradford has been named as one of the country’s future “super-connected cities”, with the Government planning to pump £15 million into development of superfast broadband.
This means that, in the future, broadband speeds in Bradford will be over 10 times what they are now. Currently, the city’s speeds are below what most the UK experiences, meaning that Bradford has a bit of catching up to do. However, this is expected to improve within the next few years.
Speed and Availability
Bradford’s current broadband speeds are average in most areas, with some customers only reaching just under 10Mb. This is however gradually changing as fibre-optic broadband becomes more and more prevalent in the city. Depending on the area where you live speeds will also increase, with BD2 providing some of the best coverage.
Bradford’s 4G is also a work in progress, with mobile coverage improving over the years. Mobile broadband users should be satisfied with the coverage they get, as it’s no worse than other cities in the region. More remote parts of the city may see dropouts, but these are few and far between.
Providers
Bradford residents can enjoy services from all the major UK broadband providers. Virgin Media, BT and TalkTalk are all represented in the city, making finding the cheapest deal possible easy.
Virgin Media comes in first in most areas when it comes to speeds, with the firm providing cable-to-property fibre-optic broadband where others are lacking. As Bradford’s broadband network improves, further providers aim to have better speeds.
Summary
Bradford’s broadband network is slightly behind most of the UK, but it is rapidly improving. With a large range of providers to choose from, residents will find it easy to choose a deal that suits them.
